Sometimes Déjà Vu X2 gets stuck trying to import or export an Office document. One possible cause of this phenomenon is that Déjà Vu X2 cannot import Office 2003 format files directly, and must run a macro in Office that opens the document to be imported and converts it to an intermediate format that Déjà Vu X2 can import.
If, during this process, Office creates a dialog box of any kind, the process will stall until you close the dialog box. Reasons why a dialog box could appear include:
- Office asking you for permission to run Déjà Vu X2's macro (you can change the macro security setting to instruct Office to allow this macro to run without asking you for permission).
- Office is opening the document in Protected View. This is often done automatically when opening documents that were not created on your computer. The easiest way to get around this is to open the document itself before hand and save it. The new file will have been created on your computer, so Office will not open it in Protected Mode.
- Office giving you a warning about the file's contents (e.g. the file is corrupted and needs to be repaired, the file was created in an older version of Office and has features that may not be fully supported by your version, etc.)
Often, you will have no indication of this because Déjà Vu X2 tries to hide Office applications that run its macros so as not to clutter your screen. This means that dialog boxes created by these applications will not be visible unless you specifically look for them.
Usually, you will see an icon for the Office application opened by Déjà Vu X2 appear in the windows taskbar. In the image shown below, an icon for Excel appeared:
Click on this icon the bring the application to the foreground, and then you will see what dialog it has created. The instance of Excel running in the image shown above was outputting the following dialog:
Clicking on the Continue button allows Déjà Vu X2's macro to continue running in Excel, and thus the import process can finish.
